Natalia is an academic research psychologist who combines brain imaging and behavioural methods to study abnormal reward processing in a range of disorders including overeating and obesity. She translates basic science knowledge into developing new psychological/behavioural interventions. For example she is currently examining whether food response inhibition training (a form of ‘brain training’) administered online or via an app can reduce overeating. She has recently applied these methods to helping people to reduce their meat intake. She is also involved in several community food initiatives in Exeter trying to encourage people to eat healthier and more sustainable diets, such as the Exeter Food Network and the Sugar Smart campaign.
